Better Digital Photos and Scrapbooking

CK's (Creating Keepsakes) has a new resource and it is AMAZING!  It is called Better Digital Photos and Scrapbooking . As soon as I flipped it open I learned 3 new things about taking better digital photos. I am super excited because I get to GIVE ONE AWAY! 

I am very excited because I think for scrapbookers or  any person that takes pictures this special issue is a MUST have! 

When I flipped open this little gem, I realized that it was not just for your digital camera that you hauld around but there are tips for using your other devices as well. It even give you idea on HOW to get started building a layout.. Oh here is a sneak peek inside...

SEPT/OCT Creating Keepsakes hits the Newsstands!

Sept/Oct 2012 Creating Keepsakes Magazine

OK friends you know I am a fan of Creating Keepsakes magazine and you know why... because it is always packed with great ideas and scrappy goodness. From the latest trends to classic scrapbooking information CK is my go to tool in scrapbooking. 

I have subscribed to CK since the very first issue was published! As a subscriber I am also entitled to the free digital issue -- SO I discovered that on the digi issue that if I wanted to print a page for my inspiration book I can!  HOW AWESOME is that? Pretty Awesome!  CK also has a TON of free down-loadable content for anyone you can find a plethora of scrappy goodness right here 

Every week, I post a challenge at Club CK, a free online community for all paper artist, called the ISSUE challenge, where I dig into the latest ISSUE and find little tidbits of goodness to challenge paper artist to 1. Use this most valuable resource (the magazine) to its fullest 2. Stretch and try new things and broaden the scope of their art.  3. Creating Keepsakes Mixed Media Scrapbooking

 

Thank you for stopping by thinking*through*design a safe place for scrapbookers to get information and answers to questions they may have surrounding the art of paper.  We also share a challenge to help you stretch yourself as a paper artist!  That is why this special ISSUE of Creating Keepsakes "Mixed Media Scrapbooking" is such a perfect fit for us!  We love trying new idea!

Who knows the story of STONE SOUP?  Well as a kid it was one of my favorites.  I loved the story because I loved how all the villiagers came together to create something that was delicious because one man had a vision! 

I love to see other people's art work because it usually is the ingredients they use that inspire me to create!  THIS special issue of Creating Keepsakes Mixed Media was like someone brought the stew to my door and said.. "I know you didn't add to the pot, but enjoy the flavors and be inspired!"  I felt like every page was a delicacy. My eyes have been feasting on the yumminess that is this issue for days.. and I wanted to give one away so you can say..."I got a free lunch for the eyes!"

I am a BIG fan of fabric. I also quilt!  Going to the fabric store is ALMOST as much fun as going to the LSS and picking out paper.  Before my scrap-booking days, I actually was a "hard core" cross-stitcher/embroidery girl. In  fact, I almost opened a store that focused on cross-stitch.  My love the concept of mixing fabric and stitching onto my layout. All that said, I can tell you I love to create layouts with stitching on them, in fact I have noticed lately that most of my layouts have been stitched.  Another thing that I love about stitching... is how it can be used in your design as a grounding technique.  You can also check out the Thanks Living Challenge  at Club CK that focuses on different design concepts every month.  This month was on Grounding and Anchoring your layouts and it just so happens I used stitching to illustrate how great using stitching on your layout can unify and bring a layout together.

OH how lucky am I that I get to give away the newest issue of Creating KEEPSAKES.  As a subscriber I got this little gem of a magazine in the mail the other day and I don't know they do it but WOW this ISSUE is PACKED with great ideas. It is time.... Yesterday I gave away an ISSUE of Creating Keepsakes newest ISSUE (May/Jun 2012).  Well today I get to start a give-away for the latest SPECIAL ISSUE of Creating Keepsakes.

I must admit, I REALLY love this special issue because it really is closer to my way of scrapbooking.  I also enjoyed being able to create a layout for this ISSUE.  

In this layout I used basic scrapbook supplies and 4 additional supplies. I found that using one mask (on the bottom of the layout) inspired me to create a similar look and feel on the side of the layout (see left yellow punched cardstock). 

One thing I love about this ISSUE is that it give you ways to create layout with just a few or many supplies, additionally there are many other fun ideas and a ton of inspiration to explore! Everyone knows I am about details. As I looked through this issue for the first time I was struck at how many amazing little details are packed inside.

Well it is Wednesday so we know what that means!  A NEW ISSUE Challenge has been post to Club CK.

My layouts are really important to me. I treasure the baby photos (my kids baby photos are print film 35mm days) so I am very careful about HOW I scrap them. A few things that make it hard for me in the digi age is that these are the only copies of some of these photos that I have and they are all the same size. Yeah I can crop them but I don't want to remove too much from the photos. 

I was inspired by one of Cindy Toeby'slayout in the kit, and my intention was to straight up scraplift it, but I ended up making it my own, you can see Cindy's layout, but I adjusted it to fit my needs. I also scanned and lightened these dark photos and really gave a nice vintage feel to the photos (but my son is only 16 so I don't know how vintage it could be).  I am very excited at how many layouts I can see with this fabulous kit it is FULL of ideas and great product.

ANYWAY-- Here is the layout I created for the ISSUE challenge this week--Please join us at Club CK and play along

A thought on this layout:when you are creating from a sketch or a scraplift like I did here, think about the lines not the elements. Here I was able to adjust the layout because I took the center of the layout and moved the elements around so they would work with the photos I had!  I also added a little bit of me by adding a silly title and stitching around the border of the layout.

I am so excited this week to see what you can come up with.  I created a layout that used the Creating Keepsakes Baby Kit and guess what.. I got an extra one to give away! YUP thats right, here is all you need to do to get a chance to win this great kit:

1. Become a follower(I usually don't do this, BUT this blog is going to get a new format soon and I think you will like it, I believe it will be one of those things that you will be happy you chose to be a follower. Wednesday Giveaway + a challenge!
